Sea Trout fishing forum

A useful guide to the life-cycle of the Atlantic Salmon

Ally Gowans' salmonid length/weight calculator. Based on salmon data. Personally and on an admittedly small number of sample fish I find that this calculator somewhat under-estimates the weight of sea trout. I would be interested to hear of any results for brown trout as well.

Weather and river conditions

Tide Tables - Useful when intending to fish Totnes weir pool. Select Totnes from the list. You must then select the date required on the right hand side. Unfortunately predictions for only one week ahead are available. Please note that times are in GMT. For BST add one hour to the times in the table and along the bottom of the graph. Ideally you would fish the pool while the tidal height is less than 1.5 metres. When fishing past midnight GMT, remember to view the next day's tables.

Tide Tables 2 - ...or you might prefer this one. If you set the prediction length to at least two days and 'max graph size' also to two days you will see a continuous graph that includes the whole night-time period. The time scale is pretty reasonable at this setting or when you have identified the correct place you can always zoom in for more accuracy by selecting a graph size of one day. Again you are looking for 1.5 metres or less. It is also possible to set the graph to show BST.

DartCam - visual check of the weather on Dartmoor. There is also an automatic weather station on this site. Useful for checking rainfall on the moor to estimate the river's level.
